1000 Islands Writers Festival

Writing isn’t just about writing. And research. It also encompasses professional development—quite the most rewarding part of the entire process—and wrought with skill by this particular festival!

Small. Intimate. Friendly. But really, really cold. Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, east of Kingston, Gananoque (gan-an-o-kwi) abounds in B&B running the gamut from charming to impressive.

Patron Terry Fallis (2x winner of the Stephen Leacock Memorial Award for Humour) heads a cast of amazing and articulate Canadian writers and musicians. This was the second time I attended, and will definitely be there next year. The very best part of the event is the approachable and encouraging attitude of the featured writers.

"With equal measures of humour and heart, Marilyn Temmer skilfully writes a world from a bygone era. Her characters spring from the page and make us long for a simpler time when dancing meant a waltz." Terry Fallis
